Gertie Dean

BRUCE - Gertie Odessa Dean, 98, died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, at the Bruce Community Living Center.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Parker Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Bruce with Dr. Daniel Hathorne officiating. Burial was in the Bruce Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann Garrett of Southaven and Linda Tedford (Jerry) of Bruce; one sister, Annie Dae Keen of Madison; five grandchildren, Edward Garrett of Southaven, Teresa Russell (Mike) of Fulton, Mark Tedford (Suzette) of Bruce, Jo Jo Clanton (Rob) of Bruce and Jeff Tedford of Oxford; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mildred Moore

FULTON - Mildred Moore, 88, died Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born July 16, 1921, to Tom and Ella Hughes Davis. She was a longtime member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She worked at Blue Bell for several years. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jackie Gray officiating. Burial was in Keyes Cemetery,

Survivors include one son, Dennis Moore (Lanis), and one daughter, Beth Jenkins (Mike), both of Fulton; one sister, Joyce Moore (Holland) of the Evergreen community; two grandchildren, Larry Moore (Monica) of Fulton and Tammy Coltharp (Tom) of Atlanta, Ga.; six step-grandchildren, Shelley Woods (Stuart), Kayla Jenkins, Austin Jenkins, Stephanie Jenkins, Rebecca Jenkins and Zachary Jenkins; and one great-great-grandchild,

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vaudry Moore; 1 grandson, Thomas Moore; two sisters, Marie Stovall and Mata Christian; and one brother, Major Davis; and her parents.

Pallbearers were Eric Thorn, Jerry Moore, Bobby Hare, Russell Clayton, Arie Sartin and Austin Jenkins.

Sammie Bennett

FULTON - Sammie L. Bennett, 75, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks in Verona. He was born Sept. 16, 1934, in Itawamba County to Ruel and Mauvline Dozier Bennett. He was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. He worked in construction as an equipment operator. He enjoyed fishing and playing his guitar.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. James Wilson and Bro. Terry Paul Graham officiating. Burial was in East Fulton Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Northington Bennett of Fulton; one daughter, Tracy Moore (Wes) of Magnolia, Texas; one son, Nicky Bennett (Debra) of Saltillo; two stepdaughters, Patricia Carroll (Ricky) of Fayette, Ala., and Linda Parker-Ware of Hamilton; two stepsons, Larry Parker of Columbus and Roy Parker of Hamilton; six grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren; one sister, Emma Umfress of Fulton; two brothers, Bobby Bennett (Irene) and Joe Bennett (Ann), both of Fulton; a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice Bennett; a daughter, Pam Pearson; three sisters, Lois Key Tucker, Thelma Simmons and Mary Evelyn Bennett; and one brother, J.C. Bennett.

Pallbearers were Steve Moore, Gene Hand, Junior Wigginton, Jerry Pitts, Riley Farris and Rickey Carroll.

Ethel Mae Taylor

BOONEVILLE - Ethel Mae Holley Taylor, 87, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at her home.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Herman Clark and Bro. Terry Harmon officiating. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dayton Taylor; two sons, Donald Taylor (Carolyn Ruth) of New Site and Douglas Taylor (Carolyn) of Booneville; four daughters, Doris Pace, Freida Lambert (Roy), Jeanne Benson and Karen Michael (Bud), all of Booneville; one brother, Harold Holley (Betty) of Como; two sisters, Lucille Hoard of Marietta and Grace Rogers of Booneville; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren including Crystal Kent (Brandon) of Fulton; five great-great-grandchildren; her caregivers, Geraldine Riddle and Mickey Lambert, both of Booneville.

Castelhun Chamblee

FULTON - Dorothy Castelhun Chamblee, 86, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009. She was born April 2, 1923, to Cleophas and Sarah Grissom Dulaney. She was a homemaker and a factory worker. She was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Clyde Mize and Charles Riley offiating. Burial was in Itawamba Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include two sisters, Agnes Miller of Haynes City, Fla. and Waynoka Miller of Plant City, Fla.; a host of nieces and nephews; her caregiver, James Steele (Josie) of Fulton.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Delton Chamblee; a son, Lecil Chamblee; a sister, Mildred South; and four brothers, Thellis, Ralvis, Thomas and Britton Dulaney.

Mary Nell Giles

AMORY - Mary Nell Clayton Giles, 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at her residence. She was born May 22, 1924, in Tilden to the Ezell Clyde and Rena Nell Wallace Clayton.

Services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home with Dr. Allen Simpson officiating. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery.

Survivors include her son, Dave Franklin Giles (Kimberly) of Glen Mills, Penn.; her sister, Diane Roberts of Fulton; two grandsons, Cooper Sullivan and Everett Clayton Giles.

Kevin York Jr.

MANTACHIE - Kevin Hugh York Jr., 18, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at his home in the Eggville community after a long bout with cancer. He was born July 1, 1991, in Tupelo to Kevin Hugh and Jennifer Lynn Looney York Sr. He was a student at Mantachie High School. He enjoyed watching television, building Leggo models and electronic flight simulators. He had aspirations of being a pilot. He was an avid reader.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at McNeece - Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Wayne Thorn and Bro. Curtis Shelton officiating. Burial was in the Center Star cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Kevin and Jennifer York Sr. of Eggville; grandparents, William and Ann Looney of Mooreville, Donnie and Sharon York of Tupelo; one great-grandmother, Annie Mae Gaines of Tupelo; aunts and uncles, Earl and Julie Sweeney of Cordova, Tenn., Mike and Tonya Kelly and Terri Taylor, all of Tupelo, and Kitty White of Mantachie; special friends, Stephen Pettigo, Scott Blackley, and Dr. Sandra Jackson; and several cousins.

Jimmy Gibbs

FULTON - James M. "Jimmy" Gibbs, III, 71, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at the VA Hospital in Memphis. He was born Dec. 15, 1937, in Fulton to James M. Gibbs, Jr., and Mildred Bradley Gibbs. He was a member of the Fulton United Methodist Church. He was retired after 20 years as a SFC in the U.S. Army. He worked in civil service work for 15 years. He previously served as the Itawamba County Veterans Service Officer.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Dr. Roy D. McAlilly, Rev. Glyn Wiygul, and Chaplain Dennis Neenan officiating. Carl Comer delivered the eulogy.

Survivors include his wife, Louise "Tootsie" Gibbs, of Memphis; one son, Frank B. Gibbs (Michelle) of Jonesboro, Ark.; two daughters, Sandra K. Bailey Palmer and Teracia Killian, both of Fulton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

John Phillip Cox

MANTACHIE - John Phillip Cox, 53, died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at his home. He was born Oct. 7, 1956, in Tupelo to Jimmy and Dorothy Edwards Cox. He was a graduate of Nettleton High School. He was an employee of Hancock Fabrics for 15 years. He was an avid golfer until he became disabled. He loved professional football and was an avid Alabama fan.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Gary Lambright and Bro. Tim Holsonback officiating. Burial was in the Dorsey Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Kaci Cox of Mantachie; one sister, Suzanne Hartley of Warrenville, S.C.; one brother, Michael Rye of Warrenville; his sister-in-law, Sonya Bustamante (Ruben) of Mantachie; his mother-in-law, Nell Lollar of Mantachie; and the mother of his daughter, Tina Harris of Mantachie; in addition to many other relatives.

Christian Tyler Payne

FULTON - Christian Tyler Payne, 2 months old, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at home. He was born August 14, 2009, and was full of laughter and joy.

Services were held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at New Chapel CME Church with Rev. Luther Minor officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Darden amp& Sons Funeral Home was in charge.

Survivors include his parents, Reginald Ahkeen Payne and Latasha Marie Walls, both of Fulton; a brother, Jamarion James Perks of Fulton; a sister, Khyla Anise Walls of Fulton; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James Perks of Fulton, Edward Walls and Phyllis Walls, both of Fulton.
