Lurene Morris

FULTON - Lurene Morris, 92, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at Dogwood Plantation. She was born Aug. 17, 1917, in Kirkville to Grady and Callie Lee Yeager Davis. She was a member of Harden's Chapel Methodist Church. She worked in the ASCS office in Fulton and at Gilliland's Drapery Shop. She was an avid rose gardener.

Services were at 1 p.m. today at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Tommy Winders and Mike Deaton officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Masonic Cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Jane Lee Harris (Larry) of Fulton; one son, Dave Morris (Jan) of Fulton; five grandchildren, Derek Sheffield (Susan), Amanda Bundy, Justin Sheffield (Misty), John David Morris (April) and Mary Leigh Morris; four great-grandchildren, Wes Sheffield, Christian Sheffield, Bayleigh Sheffield and Rheagan Morris.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Hardie Morris.

Pallbearers were John David Morris, Derek Sheffield, Justin Sheffield, Louie Bigham and Wes Sheffield.

Lavelle Moses

HIAWASSEE, Ga. – Lavelle Moses, 95, formerly of Fulton, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at the Chatuge Nursing Facility in Hiawassee, Ga. She was born Jan. 12, 1914, in Itawamba County to Ausbin and Lynn Robinson Fowler. She was a Baptist. She worked in a shirt factory.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Jackie Gray officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Nelson Moses (Carol); one granddaughter; one brother, Wayne Fowler; and two sisters, Estelle Dulaney and Garmilla Senter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Otto Moses, in 1987.

Sumpter Barnes

FULTON - Sumpter T. Barnes, 93, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009, at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1915, in Fayette, Ala., to John Thomas and Samatha Jane Hawkins Barnes. He was a farmer and a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 13, at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Clyde Mize officiating. Burial was in Itawamba Memorial Garden.

Survivors include three daughters, Helen Graham of Fulton, Margaret Madison (George) of Lynn Haven, Fla., and Mary Ellen Gray of Tupelo; one son, Garry Barnes (Linda) of Morris, Ala.; eight granddaughters, Teresa Stewart, Brenda Madison, Karen Golden, Lisa Wilburn, Camelia Barritt, Debra Chapin, Myra Welch and Sondra Postell; one grandson, Brian Gray; 14 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lula Mae Barnes; a granddaughter, Kathy Cox; and eight brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers were Brian Gray, Joe Davis, Brandon Wilburn, Jeff Wilburn, Michael Graham, Christopher Chapin, Jonathan Leach and Cory Chapin.

David Shumpert

NETTLETON - David "Uncle Dave" Shumpert, 65, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2009, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He was a retired employee of Itawamba Solid Waste and a former employee of Evans Lumber Company. He loved farming and working on his tractor. His family was so important to him, and he love his coworkers at Itawamba Solid Waste.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 16, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Nettleton with Rev. Perry Carr officiating. Grayson-Porter's Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Gloria Shumpert of Nettleton; seven children, Kenya (Philip) Blackmon and David B. (Victorie) Shumpert), both of Fulton, and Nipse Shumpert, Kenyatta Shumpert, Michael Shumpert, Marlena Shumpert and Adam Shumpert, all of Nettleton; two brothers, Oliver (Lois) Shumpert and William (Gracie) Shumpert of Fulton; two sisters, Celia (Connell) Gordon of Nettleton and Sarah (Robert) McKinney of Smithville; 10 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton Shumpert and Dessie Cowley Shumpert; one son, Charlton Shumpert; two brothers, Welton Shumpert and George Shumpert; two sisters, Mary Randolph and Annette Nails; and one grandchild, Sierra Shumpert.

Mary Williamson

FULTON - Mary Lois Lindley Williamson, 82, died Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Red Bay, Ala., to Robert William and Louisa Jane Hagood Lindley. She was a homemaker, and she attended Fulton United Methodist Church.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 16, at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Glyn Wiygul and Rev. Jim Fisher officiating. Burial was in the Benefield Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Debra Droke (Jerry) of Fairview and Jane Williamson of Meridianville, Ala.; three granddaughters, Kristen Minch (Jason) of Tupelo, Emily Winchell (Matt) of Cordova, Tenn., and Ashley Hester (Chris) of Fairview; one great-grandson, Conner Hester; one sister, Oniece Thorn of Vina, Ala.; four brothers, Rowe Lindley (Bea) and Charles Lindley (Carolyn), both of Vina, Hollis Lindley (Francis)of Muscle Shoals, Ala., and Paulman Lindley (Faye) of Zion, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Connie Williamson; a daughter, Mora Sue Williamson; and two brothers, Baxter and Keiffer Lindley.

Pallbearers were David Lindley, Donnis Martin, Pat Golebiewski, Phil Crane, Mike Golebiewski, Roger Crane and Stan Williamson.

Memorial donations may be made to Fulton United Methodist Food Pantry or the American Cancer Society.

Carey Robbins

FULTON - Carey Wray Robbins, 50, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at his home. He was born Nov. 17, 1958, in New Albany to Jimmy and Ruby Jewel Richardson Robbins. He did upholstery work and drove a cement truck. He had been a member of the National Guard.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 15, at Senter Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Jarrell and Bro. Ronnie Gallaway officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Robbins of Fulton; one son, Desmond Robbins (Tiffany) of Fulton; one daughter, Christi Nabors of Fulton; his mother, Ruby Robbins of New Albany; two granddaughters, Bailey and Breeze Nabors; one brother, Barry Robbins (Sherri) of New Albany; and two nephews, Walt and Wes Robbins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Robbins.

Pallbearers were Jamie Collier, Michael Presley, John Stanford, Josh McCracken, Marcus McCracken and Justin Maxcy.

Jane Mayben

FULTON – Carolyn Jane Mayben, 63, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born March 13, 1946, in Tremont. She had worked for Genesco and Daybrite. She was a member of the World Wide Church of God. She loved her grandchildren, her church family and flowers.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Gary O’Neal officiating. Burial was in the Hopewell Cemetery south of Tremont.

Survivors include two daughters, Machelle Tubb (Kenny) of Peppertown and Sonya Sheffield (Bill) of Golden; her mother, Ruby Dale Childress of Tupelo; one brother, Steven Michael McNiece (Nancy) of Fulton; two sisters, Dorothy Cockrell of Fulton and Rivers Shaw (J.W.) of Birmingham, Ala.; and seven grandchildren, Jessica George, Alanna Gray, Justin Riley, Tony Gray, Billy Gray, Kodi Sheffield and Sidney Sheffield.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arvin McNiece, and one brother, Robert McNiece.

Pallbearers were her grandsons and sons-in-law.

Mealie Kennedy

TREMONT- Mealie Ann Kennedy, 93, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at the Gilmore Regional Medical Center in Amory. She was born Jan. 2, 1916, in Itawamba County to James "Jimmy" and Clemmie Pearce Wilson. She was a member of Liberty Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and had worked in factories and the Tremont School lunch room. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, canning, and working crossword and seek and find puzzles. She loved her grandchildren.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 15, at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Bobby Fowler officiating. Burial was in the Liberty Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Noel Kennedy (Rhonda) of Tremont; one daughter, Ann K. Poole (Tommy) of Tremont; one sister, Dorothy Hutson (Carl) of Tremont; and four grandchildren, Benjie Poole, Lana Wheeler (Ronald), Paige Kennedy and Hope Kennedy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Webb Kennedy, on Dec. 22, 1997; her parents; and her siblings, Bealier Middleton, Neppie Cummings, Martha Wilson, Bold Wilson, Barney Wilson, Dow Wilson and Delsie Sue Steele.

Pallbearers were Dale Kennedy, Harold Kennedy, Smity Cummings, Kendall Cummings, Gerald Kennedy, Glen Kennedy, John Anthony, Charles Anthony and Tom Jackson.
