Members of Future Business Leaders of America, from left, Lori Posey, Ginger Williams, Summer Hamilton and Marisa Barnes, show off more than 580 cans of food and boxes of nonperishables that were donated as part of a recent food drive at the Itawamba County Vocational Center. Called “Can the Principal” and sponsored by the FBLA, the food drive encouraged students and teachers to fill principal Gary Hamm’s office (the name of the event will change next year to “Can the Hamm”) with cans of food. Although that lofty goal was never quite reached, the school did more than quadruple its efforts from last year, reason enough to celebrate. The office staff brought in the most canned foods, earning them a pizza party, which they decided to share with the classes that raised the most canned food from their respective blocks. The food will be donated to the Church of Christ Food Pantry for distribution among needy families in the area.
